Housing Crisis

It's official. London is too crowded to live here any more

Preliminary findings of new in-depth research into housing for people who are homeless in Ireland indicates a concerning trend of demand outstripping availability of appropriate housing.

Nicholas Pleace of York University, international housing and homelessness expert, has conducted the research in association with the Simon Communities in Ireland looking at housing led responses and the homelessness strategy in Ireland. This research specifically looks at access to long term housing and explores the range of possible exits from homelessness.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan,

has today (16 May 2016) exposed the full extent of the capital’s housing crisis and accused the previous mayor of letting down Londoners and “leaving the cupboard bare” when it comes to delivering affordable housing in the city.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said:

London gave me the opportunity to go from the council estate where I grew up to being able to buy a family home we could afford. But today, too many Londoners are being priced out of our city.
